Features & Reviews

Phone : The Nokia 5500 Sport is the follow up of the one year old 5140i. It's been a while since Nokia's last "tough" phone, and a lot has changed. Apart from the dust-proof, splash-proof, and shock-proof features, you now have a higher-resolution camera, and to most people's surprise, the Symbian smartphone operating system. The most interesting new feature would be the inclusion of a 3D motion sensor, which lets you track your jogging and also allows you to control music and play games by tapping the handset itself. Today we will examine whether these additions are genuinely functional or mere gimmicks. |
Size : The phone has a bar style with a slightly trimmed waist, and while this looks a bit funny, it actually helps to give you a firmer grip. The silver/yellow color scheme matches well with the metallic finishing on the battery cover, making the phone look like a piece of diving equipment. Nokia has also managed to trim the 5500's size a little from its predecessors, making it not much bulkier than other "normal" phones, measuring 107mm x 45mm x 18mm (4.21" x 1.77" x 0.71") and weighing 107g (3.77oz). |
Display : The phone has a TFT type screen which displays 262k colours & has a 208 x 208 pixel screen resolution |
Camera : The Nokia 5500 Sport comes with a 2 megapixel camera feature which comes complete with a 4 x digital zoom to capture every shot in true detail. The camera comes with user friendly features which include a self timer feature & advanced modes which can take the photo in either still, burst or video mode. The user can adjust the brightness of each photo, adjust the quality of each photo & take shots at night. The video player allows the user to play video in full colour in either a H263 or MPEG4 video format. The user can record & stream video on the Nokia 5500 Sport which can be stored on the phones memory & played over & over again using the video player feature. |
Battery : The phone comes with 64 Mbytes of internal memory & included in the phones kit comes a 64 Mbytes MicroSD™ memory card to expand the phones memory further. The user can expand the phones memory up to 1 Gbyte by using the swappable MicroSD™ memory cards which are available for the phone. The phone will provide 4 hours worth of talk time & up to 270 hours worth of standby time. |
Multimedia : The phone comes with an integrated music player which can play music in MP3, AMP, AAC, eAAC+ & WMA music formats. The phone comes with a stereo headset included in the kit so that the user can experience a personal listening experience. The user can use the RealPlayer which is a media player to either play, download or stream music & video. The Nokia 5500 Sport comes with a built in FM radio which allows the user to tune into their preferred radio station whenever they desire. The visual radio feature allows the user to interact with the radio station & gain information which is provided by the radio station. The user can see which song is playing, information on the band or artist who sings the song, vote for a particular song & enter contests provided by the radio station. The visual radio is a totally interactive feature for the user to enjoy. The phone supports polyphonic, MP3, AMR, True Tones, AAC, eAAC+ & MIDI ringtones. |
